My Halloween Wedding Dress | From Disaster to Dream come true
No one wants a wedding day disaster. And I mean NO ONE. But sometimes, those wedding disasters find us without our even trying. My Halloween wedding dress started out as a disaster, but thanks to a wonderful vendor, it became a dress I could only have dreamed of.
The hunt for the perfect Halloween Wedding Dress
The hardest thing I ran into while planning our Halloween wedding was finding that perfect dress. Had I been searching for a white dress, I could have found millions. The reality was that I wanted a black dress. I called multiple bridal shops searching for someone locally who carried black wedding dresses, but most only carried white. One or two suggested buying a white dress and dying it, but warned that the dye process would be both time consuming and expensive. Not something I wanted to add onto the already high cost of most wedding gowns. Plus there’s a risk that the dye wouldn’t take, and that would leave me with grey, not black. This was the point where I almost gave up.
The internet rabbit hole
In a last ditch attempt to find a black dress, I turned to the internet. Filled to the brim with black dresses, I was overjoyed to find a variety of styles and prices to fit every budget. Thinking this was my jackpot moment, I carefully compared gowns until I found the perfect one on ebay. After much thought, I had my measurements taken and then ordered the dress of my dreams.
An Unfortunate Event
The deadline for my dress to arrive came and went. I emailed and was told the dress was taking longer than anticipated, but would be on my doorstep shortly. Figuring they were taking great care in such a magnificent dress, I chose not to worry. So you can imagine my distress when the dress that showed up looked NOTHING like the dress pictured. Not only was it the wrong style, but it was navy blue and white. Out of time to return the dress, I started the search for someone to help me salvage the dress that was now in my posession.
The Productivity Parlour for Artful Living
I’m not sure why it seems that the perfect vendor would be someone with the words “Artful Living” in their name, but they were. Recommended by a fellow wedding vendor, I messaged them on Facebook and made an appointment for the following week. By this point, I’d come up with the idea to create a two piece wedding gown, using the skirt from the original dress and a top from Amazon. When I met with Naarah, she mulled over my ideas and then agreed it could be done in the timeframe I needed it. I explained I’d be happy with anything that wasn’t what I currently had, and she took on the project.
The Final Halloween Wedding Dress
When I returned to try on the final skirt, I nearly cried with joy. Naarah had taken hours to dye the many layers of skirt and tulle, by hand on her stove top. She not only took the whole dress apart, but put it back together to create a gorgeous smokey set of layers. With the help of her assistant, they added a beautiful couture style bow giving the skirt a glamorous feel. And it fit like a glove to boot. I paired it with a beautiful fitted lace top I found on Amazon, and knew everything worked out just as it should.
A beautiful investment
The final cost for this beautiful two piece Halloween Wedding Dress hovered around $650. I’m pretty sure I’ll be using this skirt again. Maybe as a Halloween costume to celebrate every year… If you’re searching for a company to make your wedding dress dreams come true, be sure to check out The Productivity Parlour for Artful Living. Even if you’re simply needing a few minor alterations, I cannot recommend the amazing ladies there enough. They are wonderful and go above and beyond for their customers. Plus it’s impossible to pass up their gorgeous Halloween costumes. I’ll be taking my kiddos back there each year to pick out new costumes.
